MY MASOCHISM

Rome, May 21, 2012 – A strange form of masochism called creativity.

Destructive manias, excesses, passions and obsessions, perfectionism… all chronic forms of professional masochism that are consciously or unconsciously revealed in the architect/artist/creative.

But even fake myths, utopias, nihilism, lack of cultural, social and ethical backgrounds. This was the underlying theme of “MY Masochism – an architecture love story”, a short festival proposed by the Roman team of CityVision for their fifth major event held from May 18th to 20th in Rome.

Leitmotif of each day, in addition to the communication campaign that preceded the event, was the promo produced by ShooTV and starring by Igor Petrotto.

The main event was the lectio magistralis held by the London architect Robert Stuart-Smith at MACRO.

The event was opened by Francesco Lipari, curator of the event along with Vanessa Todaro, Marco Arciero and Paolo Emilio Bellisario. After presenting CityVision Mag # 6, an international architecture  free press completely devoted to the theme of the event, and the events planned for the next months, Francesco Lipari introduced Luigi Presicce, the artist in residence at MACRO from February to May 2012, that has created exclusively for CityVision the cover of the new issue.

After that the scene was only for Robert Stuart-Smith, professor at the Architectural Associaction school inLondon, Design Director and Founding Partner of Kokkugia, an architectural firm with offices inNew York andLondon, well known for their research and experimentation in the field of generative design.

Stuart-Smith, for the first time inRome, with his lecture and works, completely kept the eyes of all presents  in the auditorium of MACRO glued to the screen.

The other two days of the event, involved several architects, designers, artists, communicators, all young and qualified professionals who, through the use of words or images, have tried to answer the question “What’s your masochism?”. The first day was the opening on May 18th at the Boffi-Barberini showroom in Rome. Special guest of the evening were Danny D’Annibale, finalist of the last edition of Masterchef Italy, and the florist designer Maya De Roo. Both expressed their professional masochism in a live performance under the astonished eyes of the other guests.

On May 20, starting as usual at 20.20, the event ended with the Pecha Kucha Night 6, organized by CityVision and Renault at Circolo Degli Artisti of Rome, where was presented Twizy, the first and innovative 100% electric “urban crosser”, as ideal testimonial for this unmissable creative event.

A new milestone for the group of CityVision that after Juergen Mayer H, Joshua Prince Ramus and Jules Coke has once again succeeded in bringing, for the first time in Italy, an international voice as Kokkugia.

Manie distruttive, eccessi, passioni ed ossessioni, perfezionismo…forme croniche di masochismo professionale consapevolmente o inconsapevolmente insite nella natura dell’architetto/artista/creativo.

Ma anche falsi miti, utopie, nichilismo, assenza di substrati culturali, sociali ed etici. Questo in breve il filo conduttore di “MY MASOCHISM – an architecture love story”, lo short festival proposto dal gruppo romano di CityVision per il loro quinto importante evento svoltosi dal 18 al 20 maggio nella Capitale.

Leitmotiv di tutte le giornate, oltre che della campagna di comunicazione che ha preceduto l’evento, è stato il promo realizzato da ShooTV ed interpretato da Igor Petrotto.

Evento centrale la lectio magistralis tenuta dall’architetto londinese Robert Stuart-Smith al MACRO.

Ad aprire la serata è stato Francesco Lipari, curatore dell’evento insieme a Vanessa Todaro, Marco Arciero e Paolo Emilio Bellisario. Dopo aver presentato CityVision Mag #6, free press di architettura internazionale interamente dedicato al tema masochistico, e le iniziative in programma per i prossimi mesi, Francesco Lipari ha passato la parola a Luigi Presicce, artista in residenza al MACRO da febbraio a maggio 2012, che ha realizzato in esclusiva per CityVision la cover del nuovo numero.

La scena è stata poi tutta di Robert Stuart-Smith, docente presso la Architectural Associaction school di Londra, design director e founding partner di Kokkugia, studio di architettura con sedi a New York e Londra, noto per le loro ricerche e sperimentazioni nel campo della progettazione generativa.

Stuart-Smith, per la prima volta a Roma, con la sua lecture e le proiezioni delle opere video, ha tenuto incollati allo schermo gli occhi dei tanti presenti all’interno dell’auditorium del MACRO.

Le altre due giornate dedicate all’evento, hanno visto coinvolti architetti, designer, artisti, comunicatori, tutti giovani e qualificati professionisti che, attraverso l’uso delle parole o di immagini, hanno provato a rispondere alla domanda “What’s your masochism?”. Il primo appuntamento è stato l’opening del 18 maggio presso lo showroom Boffi-Barberini di Roma. Special guest della serata sono stati Danny D’Annibale, finalista della scorsa edizione di Masterchef Italia, e la florist designer Maya De Roo. Entrambi hanno espresso il loro masochismo professionale in una performance live sotto gli occhi stupiti degli altri ospiti.

Il 20 maggio, con inizio come da tradizione alle ore 20,20, il ciclo di eventi si è concluso con la Pecha Kucha Night 6, organizzata da CityVision e Renault presso il Circolo degli Artisti, dove per l’occasione è stato presentato il primo ed innovativo “urban crosser” 100% elettrico,  Twizy, testimonial ideale di questo imperdibile appuntamento creativo.

Un nuovo importante risultato per il gruppo di CityVision che, dopo Juergen Mayer H, Joshua Prince Ramus e Jules Coke ancora una volta è riuscito nell’intento di portare, in anteprima, in Italia una voce internazionale come quella di Kokkugia.
