Venice yin-yang city In less than two hundred years, by 2300, the human race will almost completely destroy the biosphere of the Earth. The ozone layer will disappear, constant storms, tornados, hurricanes and tsunamis will make the remaining land inadequate for human life. Due to the global warming, the ice-bergs of the polar seas will melt, causing the water level of the oceans to rise. Cities such as Venice, Amsterdam, London, Lisbon, Manhattan  or Bologna will partly or entirely be covered with water. The human race forced under water, holding on to its past and memories will take possession of the spaces and river-beds of its sunken cities. The definition of outside and inside, alive and dead city will exchange. The previously negative spaces of the former medieval, renaissance and baroque squares of Venice, the Grande Canal, and the waters surrounding the island are now filled with capsule-cities. The people, who live there, call these underwater colonies Jin-Jang cities, referring to the new harmony created under the pressure of nature.

Evolutional spiral

On a higher level of the evolutional spiral, life is once again taking place under water (Cretaceous, Jurassic period, etc.), waiting for the time when the self-regenerating processes of nature will create the conditions of living on the land.

Geometry of the sites

The underwater sites take on the geometric structure of the marine microphossils of the plankton-sites of the Cretaceous period. Learning from the logic of the structures of the coccolith phytoplankton or the Radiolarians, honeycomb culture are created, made up of such space filling geometrical elements which when attached, enable horizontally dividable and vertically merged, optionally created arrangements. The elements of the site can be identical (truncated polyhedron), or they can be more varied structures which originate from several entities (e.g. cantitruncated cubic honeycomb). Such geometry produces an extremely stabile spatial grid-structure, which withstands the pressure of the water just like the optimized mass of fossils.

Elements

The capsules are brought to the sites as pre-manufactured elements made in manufacturer’s conditions with precision techniques. Their material is made up of hard new generational polyimide (e.g. carbon). The elements filled with the appropriate amount of water (depending on the required deepness) are simply lifted off the swimming platforms and easily shoved by divers to their places and attached to the colonies. Following this step the water is pumped out of the element with the help of a built-in compressor, and the closing panels which separate the elements from each other are removed. Balloons operating with compressed-air (air bags) are incorporated in the peaks of the openings, which, in case of a leak, or even in case large amounts of water break in are able to temporarily, for the time of the emergency, keep all water outside.

Functioning

The sites are connected to the outside world by the surface platforms. All of the ships, helicopters arrive here, and elevators take people down from the surface to the underwater spaces. The energy supply of the colony is provided by underwater power plants set off by tides, and solar panels located on the top of the platform. The colony is equipped with its own water purification device and a system producing potable water.
