MATRI
bottles?, inflatable, glasses?, greenhouses
Inflatable, is an object that can be inflated with a gas, with air, but hydrogen, helium and nitrogen are also used.
Greenhouse, is a building in which plants are grown.
The project begins with the study of a few inflatable objects such as a swimming pool, a life-jacket, a doll, a ball, a duck and this led to a shape synthesis. An exercise in disorientation that allows the transpositions of their meanings: the elements loose their uniqueness and become a single object.
‘Matri’ is a transparent membrane that protects some selected seeds: the first known farming specimens, born with agriculture itself and at the same time a betrayal becoming mother of organic matter, a small reserve of life, a minimum, with an enormous potential of offering nourishment.
‘Matri’ points to temporary values; a device able to trigger metamorphic processes that spread out thanks to the interaction of aggregating powers and to the possibility of multiplying the cells. It is to be considered an unfinished architecture, modular in time at different speeds and to be used at requirement.
The polypropylene structure is entirely hot glued and made of three inflatable cells, respectively 4×8 m, 4×6 m, 3×2,5 m. The elements can be utilized as a single unit and/or interlocked with a simple zipper system sewed into the cells. The anchorage is provided with a series of plastic ballasts filled with water/ the vital sap. The sealing device are thin membranes also equipped with zippers and to be mounted as needed.
